Maltarail Routes

The authors propose the introduction of rapid mass-transit of commuters, effectively and efficiently through major hubs by means of a grade-separated monorail system. A grade-separated infrastructure would tackle the ailing patronage of public transport by introducing a system more reliable, safe and efficient than the current one.

For an economically viable route, transit lines should be planned to go along major origin-destination patterns of travel, in order to accommodate areas with greatest demand and relieve congested roads in these areas. The new routes need not necessarily follow existing road networks, but rather opt for the shortest distance between nodes selected according to data drawn from the household transport survey.
